It's hard to believe that just a year ago I was packing for my bachelorette party! Last year, fourteen of us ladies went glamping in Canada and I still reminisce about the incredible scenery, food, and of course the great fun we had together. This summer feels a whee bit different, as we prepare to welcome Baby Gundry into our lives! I am well into my third trimester, the little guy is due in September, and my belly is getting gigantic, or so it feels!
Last summer, I had so much fun thinking about all of the little details for our wedding in Scottsdale. I still have to post pictures on my blog, stay tuned. This summer is even more fun as I am loving ever part of decorating a nursery (sneak peek coming soon!), purchasing baby clothing, and imagining life this fall with the little one. Planning baby shower details is right up my alley and so I wanted to share a few of my favorite easy and elegant ideas for hosting!
When hosting a baby shower you need to think about the following things: Decor Details, Mocktails, an Activity, Dessert, Party Favors, and a Gift for the Mom! I hope these ideas below to inspire you to throw an adorable soiree for someone you know and love!
Floral Ice Cubes
If you are looking for an easy and elegant way to spruce up an ice bucket or cocktail, look no further! These pretty ice cubes will instantly elevate your display. Perfect for bridal or baby showers, girls night out, and more! I like using large 2-inch cube molds. You can fill them up with flowers and don't have to worry about over-stuffing and leaving little room for water. Purchase a cube tray at Amazon, with free Prime shipping here.
I used spray roses and carnations. The small buds fit well in the cubes and the different shades of pink scream baby! Well, we are having a boy, but the pink stuff is still fun!
To make the ice cubes, place 2-3 small buds in each cube. Top with water. Flowers will float to the top, but do not worry, they will freeze nicely inside. You really can't mess these up, so have fun with it!
Fre Frosé (Alcohol-Removed Frozen Rosé)
Attention Pregnant Ladies! How about a little (non-alcoholic) Frosé?! Every time I see someone post a picture of Frosé (Frozen Rosé) I feel like I am missing out on some summer necessity! So, I set out to create a version for myself, and for you!
I discovered Fre, a non-alcoholic wine, and I have loved using it to make mocktails! Instead of Rosé, I used Fre's White Zinfandel to create my version of Frosé! With its delicate rose color and luscious taste, this alcohol-removed White Zinfandel has a fragrant strawberry and cranberry aroma which leads to a refreshing ripe berry flavor followed by a pleasant, lingering finish. It pairs perfectly with the pureed strawberries that get blended in this frothy frozen mocktail.
Fre Alcohol-Removed Frosé (Frozen Rosé)
15 minutes plus 6 hours or overnight freeze time
2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
1 tablespoon sugar
¼ cup orange juice
2 tablespoons grenadine
1 ounce lime juice
1 bottle Fre White Zinfindel
1. In a blender or food processor pulse the strawberries, sugar, orange juice, grenadine and lime juice until smooth.
2. Place a large gallon size freezer bag into a plastic or glass dish then pour the wine into the bag then add the strawberry mixture. Stir to blend.
3. Seal the bag closed and place into the freezer for 6 hours or overnight.
4. Scoop the frozen rose’ into a blender or food processor adding a bit of non-frozen rose’ and blend into a slushy smooth consistency.
5. Pour into chilled glasses and serve.
Fre Alcohol-Removed Chardonnay Spritzers
With its deep golden hue, and lively tropical fruit aromas that waft from the glass, Fre's alcohol-removed Chardonnay is as elegant as it gets. Rich, creamy apple flavors mingle with crisp citrus notes on your palate, leading to an enjoyably tart finish making it the perfect alcohol-removed wine for a spritzer. On these hot summer days I like to mix mine with a little soda water. Turn your wine into a spritzer and serve it with a floral ice cube!
Fre Alcohol-Removed Chardonnay Spritzer
2 cups soda water
1 bottle Fre Chardonnay
1. Pour 1/2 cup Fre Chardonnay into a wine glass. Add 1/2 cup soda water. Top with floral ice cube.
Note: Mix to your liking! Sometimes I want it lighter and add more soda water, where as other times I want a 50/50 mix. Your call!
Decorating Wooden Blocks
I love the idea of an easy activity that people can engage in if they want, or can easily ignore if they would prefer sipping on their frosé! Decorating wooden blocks is a fun one because all of the supplies can sit off to the side and your guests can casually head over and write a nice message on one if they choose to do so. I purchased these blank blocks on Amazon. Offer perminent markers and paint and leave the creativity to your guests!
Onesie Cake for Dessert
Dessert is of course one of the most important parts of the day and it is safe to say that this could not be any cuter! You don’t need to run out to the bakery and order a fancy, specialized cake in order to have something fun and inventive. Using just cake mix and frosting in a can, you too can create an affordable yet adorable themed cake.
1 (15.25-ounce) box white cake mix
Vegetable oil and eggs as needed according to package directions
2 (12-ounce) jars buttercream frosting
Sprinkles and/or icing for decorating
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
2. Prepare the cake according to the package directions. Bake and cool.
3. Trim the top of your cake flat and flip it onto a platter.
Ready To Pop Party Favors
What is a party without a party favor?! I love giving away edible party favors so my friends have something to munch on later that day or week. This has become my signature "dish" when entertaining. No one will leave our home empty-handed! Here is a super simple (yet cutesy clever) idea. Place popcorn in a cellophane bag and tag with a "Ready to Pop" label! Create labels, or purchase them on Etsy, and hand out popcorn as your guests leave!
Gift for the Mom-To-Be
Fre Sparkling Brut in a Floral Package
Don't forget your guest of honor! Give her a bottle of Fre's Alcohol-Removed Sparkling Brut, my personal favorite. Package in a cellophane bag with extra flowers for a cute and simple way of showing your love. She can head home, pop the cork, and relax after a perfect party!
I am having so much fun creating mocktails with Fre wines. Stay tuned for more recipes this summer, including my must-haves for the third trimester. To learn more Fre wines and their process, please click here!
