As the story goes, these candies came from Martha Washington’s recipe collection. Not these very ones, as I have made a few changes myself, but this type of candy was created years ago and has become quite popular around Christmas time. Talk about a party - Christmas at the White House! Whether true or not, I enjoy picturing Martha and George passing these candies around as their guests dined.
Here is a sneak peek recipe from our No-Bake Desserts book coming in 2017!
1 ½ cups pecans
1 cup coconut
2 cups powdered sugar
½ stick butter, room temperature
1 (14 ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk
2 cups chocolate candy melts
Place pecans and coconut in a food processor and pulse until finely chopped.
Using an electric mixer, cream sugar and butter together. Add milk and coconut nut mixture. Stir until well combined.
Roll into small balls and place on parchment lined cookie sheet.
Place in the refrigerator for at least an hour to firm up.
Melt chocolate in microwave and dip each ball in to the chocolate candy coating allowing the excess to drip back in the bowl when fishing out with a spoon.
Place on parchment paper and continue until all candies are coated. Refrigerate until ready to eat.
